As an artist, I approach my work intuitively, allowing my imagination and the painting process itself guide me. My abstract shapes function as symbols evoking people or creatures, and coupled with my color palette I create bold artworks. I also find structure onto which I can allow my emotional self to reside. I thread forms and feelings throughout the paintings, weaving all the parts together. I believe we are all interrelated through energy, vibration and light - like ripples in water, it all connects.
I grew up in a military family which gave me the opportunity to travel growing up allowing me to witness a mix of cultural aesthetics. This had a major impact on my life, opening my eyes and giving me appreciation for how small the earth is that we live on.
For more than 20 years, I facilitated an arts program at a California State Prison, through the Arts in Corrections program. Teaching art there made me realize how our society needs to work for social justice, equality and equity.
I find the process of creating art exhilarating, inspiring reflective and critical thought-and offering me some moments of pure magic too. The arts are a part of our souls, the bridge connecting people all over this world.
